September is Dementia Awareness month yet Dementia Australia’s packed calendar of informative and supportive events runs all year –  for the person diagnosed and their carers, families and friends. The webinars below are all online and some are repeated at later dates. Living With Dementia program of 7 sessions on Zoom starting Monday August 31 – An overview of dementia and how to proceed after diagnosis including coping with change, relationships and communication, planning for the future and staying healthy.

Recently diagnosed with dementia – This live, online education and support session covers dementia and support options for people living with early stage dementia, their family, friends and carers. It’s live, on Tuesday, 08 September 2020 11:00am-12:00pm

Dementia Care Navigator – Dementia Australia has a new way to identify and access dementia services: the ‘Dementia Care Navigator’. This will simplify finding and accessing government-supported aged care services. Wednesday, 09 September 2020 10:00am-11:45am Australian Western Standard Time

Transition to respite or care – This talk is about the benefits of respite care, when residential care may be needed, understanding residential care and continuing care at home. Thursday, 17 September 2020 10:00am-11:30am AEST

Activities at home – This practical session on *Zoom will help carers plan engaging activities to do at home. It promotes independence and wellbeing by focusing on what the person with dementia can still do. Thursday, 24 September 2020 10:00am-11:30pm AEST

Topics of later webinars include: care for the carer, coping with changing behaviours, and grief and loss.

Sydney Community Services runs a Seniors’ Hub at our Community Hub at Hunters Hill which offers a range of engaging, stimulating activities for older people in a safe and comfortable environment. Programs are tailored for groups including a ladies group, a men’s group, and a mixed group who all enjoy the opportunity to  get involved in activities, socialise, and go on day trips.
