Podiatry Services Coordinator, Geeta, has had a vision to do community work since she was in high school.
“It’s in my nature to help people. And I’ve worked with different age groups in my native country and in Australia, and built strong bonds with older people.”
Back in India Geeta worked in the education industry as a trainer and assessor for organisations similar to TAFE here. While training as an accountant here, she continued in the education sector as a freelancer before moving into hospitality and aged care.
Now she’s busy keeping more than 600 pairs of feet happy – and says there are more clients each week who find it difficult to go out to see a podiatrist but love having a podiatrist visit them at home. Geeta coordinates referrals to a team of eight podiatrists who see clients usually once every six to eight weeks. She follows up the referrals from My Aged Care, explains podiatry services and links the client with a podiatrist. The podiatrist then assesses ongoing care needs and Geeta follows up with clients to check the service is working well for them. She keeps the treatment plan up to date and handles all administrative work around the service.
“I like the work because I’m helping people and it’s especially satisfying when people ring to thank us or send a personal thank-you note for the customer service,” she says.
“And I enjoy working for Sydney Community Services because the team is professional and helpful, and the flexibility with hours enables a good work-life balance so I can spend time with my daughters after school.”
When not flat-chat keeping so many pairs of feet happy, Geeta also does administrative work in SCS’s Lane Cove and Hunters Hill offices.
