Just last year, Nursing Co-ordinator Katie Pakai-Kelly organised our team of nurses and nursing assistants to make more than 12,000 house calls; and no doubt this year she will have managed more!
Katie does all the rostering for our home-nursing team of five registered nurses and two nursing assistants, as well as handling referrals from My Aged Care and registering new clients. The service manages care after a hospital stay, supervises medication, monitors and helps manage dementia and chronic conditions such as diabetes, plus wound care – among countless other needs. The rostering work she does is completely different from her previous work in hospitality but she loves working with the close-knit nursing team.
“All the nurses and nursing managers are wonderful and it’s such a co-operative team,” says Katie. “I especially like working in an environment where everybody helps each other. I help out with anything and everything from admin and billings to home-delivered meals – or whatever needs to be done.”
Katie moved to Sydney from Dubbo five years ago to do a health sciences degree. Now she’s adding an online psychology degree, which she’s fitting in around her full-time role at SCS. The inspiration to work in the field of psychology has come from a combination of things.
“I’ve noticed people don’t know how to communicate about many things. And also, having grown up in a regional area, I’ve been exposed to a wider range of people in more difficult, harsher situations than you would see in a more insulated area within a bigger city.”
With a ‘whatever it takes’ model of care, our highly qualified Registered Nurses and Personal Care workers provide comprehensive and holistic care to keep our clients safe and well in their own home. The team services people in Lane Cove, Greenwich, Cremorne, North Sydney, Castle Cove, Castlecrag, Willoughby, Artarmon, Chatswood, Roseville, Longueville, Northwood, Riverview, Hunters Hill, Ryde and Gladesville. With a quick and simple referral process, there is no waiting list and services are able to start within 1-2 days of receiving a referral.
