Our social activities and events provide a great way to socialise and meet new friends and also help to keep you connected to your community.
Men’s Group Outings (BOOMers)
Our BOOMers service is specifically designed for men who enjoy an opportunity to socialise and visit interesting places in the company of other men.
Who is it for?
Older men who are independently mobile (walkers and sticks welcome) and who have some spare time on their hands are welcome to join our outings that are conducted each fortnight on Friday mornings.
Typically three hours in duration, destinations include cafés, parks, galleries, museums, historic houses and other places of interest. Destinations visited in the past include NSW Art Gallery, Sculpture By the Sea, Cockatoo Island, Sydney Cricket ground tour, Radio Museum (Kurrajong), NSW Golf Club House, InterContinental Hotel/old NSW Treasury, Justice & Police Museum, Government House, Vaucluse House, ABC Studios tour, Power House museum, Maritime Museum, Watsons Bay ferry, North Head and Lane Cove National Park.
With friendly drivers and volunteers, men are welcome to join the outings by booking beforehand. No regular commitment is needed. The charge is $10 (unless stated otherwise), which includes venue entry, morning tea and transport.

Park View Café
Come along and enjoy a three-course lunch in a friendly atmosphere.
- Mondays (on 2nd and 4th week of the month) from noon-1.30pm
- Watch for our special themed lunches such as ‘Christmas in July’ and ‘Everything Italian’
- Cost $15.00. Bookings essential.
Scrabble, Bridge, Solo and Chess
- Each Thursday in the Community Room from 1.00-3.30pm
- For players of all standards
- Bridge lessons available
- Cost $5, includes afternoon tea
Bus Trips
We visit wonderful places of interest around Sydney and its surrounds.
- Once per month on a Tuesday
- Cost varies
Table Tennis
Providing fun and fitness, this competition is played at a social level.
- Fridays from 12.30-2.30pm or 2.30-4.30pm
- For over 55s and players of all standards
- Donation appreciated
Book Group
If you love books, we’d love you to join our sociable group and discuss our book of the month.
- Mondays (on 3rd week of the month) at 1.30pm
- Cost $4, includes afternoon tea and monthly book hire
Walking Group
All reasonably fit seniors are invited to participate. We walk around a range of locations – note that some walks can be challenging.

- No cost
Mah-jong
- Each Wednesday in the Seniors Centre from 1.30-4.30pm
- Beginners welcome. The game of 500 can also be organised
- For players of all standards
- Cost $5, includes afternoon tea
Special Events
Throughout the year we also have a range of special events, such as our bi-annual Fashion Parade.
Transport
For most services, our village bus is available to collect and drop you home within the Lane Cove local area.
