Who can be a volunteer?
Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome to volunteer—no special skills required!
All you need is a kind heart and a willingness to help others. From our experience, great volunteers are simply those who are friendly, dependable, calm, and caring. If that sounds like you, we’d love to have you on board!
What do I need to do to become a volunteer?
All Sydney Community Services volunteers are required to complete a Criminal History Check, and depending on your role, there may be a few other checks too.
The good news? All checks are free of charge—there’s no cost to you!
What are the benefits of volunteering?
Volunteering offers so many rewarding benefits! It’s a great way to connect with others, build friendships, and feel more involved in your community. Just a small amount of your time can help you develop new skills, boost your wellbeing, and give you a real sense of purpose and fulfilment.
How much time does volunteering take?
The time you spend volunteering is completely flexible and depends on your role, location, and the needs of our community. We truly value any time you’re able to give and will work with you to find a schedule that suits you.
How will I be supported as a volunteer?
When you sign up to volunteer with us, we’ll guide you through a simple application and induction process, so you feel clear and confident about your role.
We keep paperwork to a minimum and make sure you get the right training and support. For example, if you’re helping with our linen service, we’ll buddy you up with an experienced volunteer until you’re comfortable on your own.
Our friendly team is here to support you every step of the way.
