Not everyone can safely get out into their garden without a bit of help—and that’s where our gardening team comes in.

At Sydney Community Services, we help approved consumers make their gardens safer and easier to access.

Our focus is mainly on function and safety (not just looks!), but we’re happy to share some gardening tips too. Before any work starts, our friendly team—made up of volunteers and led by qualified horticulturalists—will chat with you about what needs doing.

We’ll go over any safety or access issues, talk through a plan, and lock in a time that works for you. Most gardens are maintained by the gardening team about every 6 months.

Services include:

  • Pruning small, low-hanging tree branches that impede access (safety conditions apply)
  • Targeted weed removal
  • Apply mulch (consumer to source mulch – conditions apply)
  • Raking to ensure clear access
  • Disposal of green waste in council recycling bin
  • Horticultural advice
  • Maximum time is four hours

Services DO NOT include:

  • Mowing
  • Lawn edging
  • Pruning of large trees or tree branches
  • Installation of plants
  • Working on ladders
  • Removal of green waste from your garden to the tip
