Cathy Commins recently joined Sydney Community Services as Manager of Client Independence – which means she oversees the in-home nursing and podiatry services, home modifications, maintenance and gardening teams, home-delivered meals plus domestic assistance and linen services.

All these services support seniors and people with a disability to live independent, healthy lives in their own home. At the moment, Cathy is busy managing quality assurance – reviewing and setting up quality compliance processes to ensure all SCS services follow the new, aged care quality standards.

“I have worked for some very big organisations, in both operations and overseeing services,” says Cathy. “What I like about this role, and SCS  as an organisation, is its local nature and strong links with community.

“It hasn’t lost focus from grassroots needs and its services are flexible, the approach is personal, and SCS has a real local presence,” she says.

“Support from Lane Cove Council enables SCS to do what we do best while Council does what they do best.”

Working in the community services sector since 1986, Cathy has worked predominantly in disability but moved to aged care about five years ago. She brings a Ba Education and Disability Studies and a Masters in Public Health to the role.
